Bird bag

I had a really tired looking short winter skirt and it was starting to fray around the waist band. It was only going to be any good for ice skating really, but as I'm not doing much of that at the moment, it was asking for the chop.
Having been away for Christmas and doing much of the scissor work and sewing as a passenger in the car on the journey, I ruled out the possibility of transforming the skirt into a stretchy top as not enough space(!) and instead tried to keep the evolving creation quite simple. I wanted to create some layers of fabric, so made a background of blue out of the waistband sewn together as quarters with some lovely Christmassy silver thread. Then I cut out a bird shape from the patterned part of the skirt and sewed that on top, again with my silver thread, then added a wing. The buttons on the skirt are so cute so I covered one with the skirt fabric and incorporated it onto the bird wing, then gave it a beak. With the remainder of the fabric, I created a rectangular shaped bag for the bird patch to be sewn onto.
I made a bag cord from a length of the skirt and sewed it into a seam so that it could be pulled closed and opened up again when necessary. I thread the cord through to the front of the bag by cutting 2 small holes and sewing around the edges so it wouldn't fray.
The result: a bird bag with a Christmas vibe which I think I may store my pegs in from now on.
